The Cape Town Association of the League of Friends members get together regularly for interesting lectures, bridge drives, local walks or regular coffee mornings. We have had a fabulous start to the year with some great ‘green finger’ experiences.
I’ll never forget the day in September 2017 when, driving in the car with my husband, I received a call from my physician saying I needed to have an angiogram as soon as possible. A couple of days before he had done several lung and heart tests on me including a stress ECG and this had shown an abnormality.
Between Johannesburg and Pretoria, not far from Lanseria Airport, is the semi- rural area of Chartwell. Entertainment in this area centres mainly around equestrian activities, cycling or walking and for the children there are a couple of swimming and dance schools. It is in the “DANCE STUDIO” in Runnymead Avenue that we hold our Fitness League gym classes on Monday and Thursday mornings.
Deidre Larkin may have only taken up running late in life, but has certainly made her mark on the SA running scene. In May she was invited to compete in Switzerland where she completed a half-marathon in two hours five minutes, setting a world record for her age group! Deidre regularly finishes on the podium at many of the events that she participates in – inspiring many a younger runner with her attitude.
Stress is a mental thing, so how could it relate to a physical event like exercise?
