Deidre Larkin may have only taken up running late in life, but has certainly made her mark on the SA running scene. In May she was invited to compete in Switzerland where she completed a half-marathon in two hours five minutes, setting a world record for her age group! Deidre regularly finishes on the podium at many of the events that she participates in – inspiring many a younger runner with her attitude.
Extend is a great, fun way to exercise!
I never realized that exercising from a chair could be so effective!
One of the highlights of my week is the EXTEND exercise class. At the age of 82 it is wonderful to know that my body can still respond to exercise – not only my body, but also my mind, receives so much benefit from the EXTEND class. I have also made many new friends in my age group who attend the classes. A big thank you to EXTEND for enriching my senior years…..
In April 2017 Cally Richardson and Caroline Bisset, both teachers from Cape Town, attended the Torquay Teacher’s Refresher course. This course is held annually in England as a way of updating teachers with new exercise related information. Not only does it serve to give the teachers new ideas to incorporate into their classes, but it also brings the community of teachers together who are spread far and wide across the United Kingdom.
As we age we tend to pay more and more attention to our health – what we eat, what vitamins we should take, how much sleep we should be having and what exercises we should be doing – all this to keep ourselves fit and well. One way, of course, is to join the Fitness League – gym a couple of hours a week, maybe even a game of tennis or a walk?
